FAQ for Renewing your Cognos Support through BSP
Will our support change?
No, support will continue to go through IBM directly via their support ticketing process. There will be no change whatsoever.
What if I have multiple renewals that occur on multiple dates?
We can work with IBM to consolidate and align ALL of your different entitlements onto one date and one renewal notice.
What if I want to do licensing upgrades at the same time as my renewal? Can BSP help with this?
Yes! BSP recommends that companies purchase their licensing upgrades concurrently with their support renewal. We will work on your behalf to achieve the deepest discount possible for both the support renewal and the licensing trade-up costs.
Is BSP competing with IBM for our Support Renewal?
No, we are a Premier IBM Business Partner and we work with IBM to provide the greatest level of service to all Cognos customers.
How is BSP able to discount our renewal to a lower price than IBM can?
We are able to discount support renewals deeper than IBM due to our established relationships with IBM and our ability to pass along savings from our end as well.
Will I be harming my relationship with my IBM reps in working with BSP?
No, we work directly with your IBM support renewal reps and account executives to pass along the best savings possible for your account. It is a team effort and IBM encourages the use of the partner channel for all purchases.
Does requesting a quote from BSP for my support renewal obligate me to purchase through BSP?
No, all requests for discounted quotes are optional. You can still choose to pay full price and purchase direct through IBM if you choose.
How much can BSP discount my renewal?
Savings can range considerably due to a number of factors such as IBM classification, whether or not you are a legacy Cognos customer, and other factors.
What other information does BSP need to get the biggest discount?
All BSP needs to get started is either your support renewal notice that IBM sends you or an email requesting a discounted quote, BUT it would also be of great help if you provided the previous year’s pricing so that we can analyze the uplift that is being applied and work towards mitigation.
Does BSP offer bundling of their other products/services in conjunction with a support renewal?
Yes, with BSP being able to offer both our Implementation-Based BSP Software and our Professional Services and Training, we would be happy to offer a bundled package with your support renewal and our other products or services.
Can BSP help me analyze my current license entitlements and my current license usage to identify any opportunities or shortcomings?
Yes, BSP Software has a free utility called BSP License Auditor that can analyze your current license usage and identify shelf-ware and/or license shortages. In addition, our IBM licensing experts do a full analysis of your entitlements to ensure the accuracy of licensing quantities and configurations.
